The Woman in the Mirror: My Journey Back to Myself

The Woman in the Mirror: My Journey Back to Myself

The personal journey behind Reform MD Rx — navigating perimenopause, weight changes, and finding the combination of provider-guided care and lifestyle change that made all the difference.

The Woman in the Mirror

I remember the morning I stood in front of the mirror and didn't recognize the woman looking back at me.

It wasn't the first time. But on that particular day, something about it felt different. I saw someone I didn't fully know — a woman whose body had changed in ways she hadn't asked for, whose face looked tired in a way that sleep couldn't fix, and whose confidence had quietly slipped away without her noticing.

I kept staring, trying to find the version of myself I recognized. She was in there somewhere. I just couldn't see her clearly.

That moment was the beginning of a journey I hadn't planned for. It's also the one that eventually led me here — to the work I do today through Reform MD Rx.

When Everything Began to Change

For most of my life, weight wasn't something I had to think about very much. I had always been naturally thin.

Then, around the age of 47, perimenopause began. At first, I didn't understand what was happening. My body was changing, and the changes didn't make sense to me.

The weight started coming on — slowly at first, then in a way I couldn't seem to stop. My hair began thinning. I experienced brain fog that made ordinary days feel harder than they should have been. There was hormonal acne, changes in my skin, and joint pain that made my body feel older than my years.

And there were the moods. There were days when my emotions felt completely out of my control. I would cry for no apparent reason. My moods would shift, sometimes without warning, and I couldn't explain why.

I kept telling myself it would pass. But it didn't.

When the Symptoms Worsened

By the time I was around 50, the symptoms had deepened. What had felt like small, manageable changes had become something I carried with me every single day.

And then there was the mirror again.

I would look at my reflection and wonder, *Where did the woman I used to know go?*

I knew I was still there. But I didn't feel like myself anymore.

When Dieting Wasn't Enough

I started dieting, hoping I could get my weight under control. But the weight wasn't coming off the way I expected. The things that had always worked for me before simply didn't anymore.

Eventually, I reached 205 pounds.

At 5 feet 4 inches tall, that weight was taking a toll on my body. My knees hurt. My back hurt. Even the simplest things began to feel different — climbing stairs, bending down, getting through a long day.

I know 205 pounds may not sound like a lot to everyone. But for me, it was. I was carrying weight my body wasn't accustomed to, and I could feel the difference every single day.

It wasn't only about how I looked.

It was about how I felt — and about how much of myself I had lost along the way.

The Conversation That Changed My Direction

Then one day, my doctor suggested that I consider GLP-1 treatment.

I decided to give it a try.

My treatment journey included GLP-1 medication, vitamin B12, and lipotropic injections. At different times, I also incorporated other wellness treatments.

And slowly, things began to change.

For me, this wasn't simply about losing pounds. I began to think of it as my own metabolic reset — a chance to approach my health differently, with guidance instead of guesswork.

As the weight came off, I found the motivation to return to the gym. I started paying closer attention to what I ate and making choices that supported the life I wanted to live.

It wasn't just one medication or one decision. It was the combination of medical guidance, changes in my habits, and my own determination to feel better.

Fifty-Five Pounds Later

I lost 55 pounds.

But when I think about that journey, the number isn't what means the most to me.

It's how I feel today.

I can look at myself in the mirror and genuinely love what I see. My confidence has returned. I feel more connected to myself, and I'm proud of the changes I've made.

The woman I thought I had lost was still there.

I just needed to find my way back to her.

Why Reform MD Rx Exists

My experience taught me something I hadn't expected: the difference between struggling alone and having a licensed provider guide you through it — someone who listens, who reviews your full health history, and who helps you understand what's actually happening in your body.

I know what it feels like to look in the mirror and not recognize the person looking back. I know what it feels like to wonder why your body is changing and why the things that once worked no longer seem to work. And I know how meaningful it can be to feel confident in yourself again.

That experience shaped the vision behind Reform MD Rx: helping people access personalized, provider-guided weight management and wellness care — the kind of care that meets you where you are, takes your full health history into account, and treats you as a whole person, not just a number on a scale.

No one should have to figure it out alone.

Closing: More Than Weight Loss

Everyone's health journey is different. What worked for me may not be appropriate for everyone, and no treatment is right for every person. That's why provider-guided care matters — because the right path is the one a licensed medical provider helps you find for your own body, your own history, and your own goals.

But if there's one thing my journey taught me, it's that change is possible. Even when it doesn't feel like it. Even when you've tried everything you can think of. Even when the woman in the mirror feels like a stranger.

She's still in there. And your story doesn't have to end where you are today.

Redesign your body, rewrite your story.
